Impact Drivers & Drill/Drivers
Drill/drivers are powerful drilling tools that can be used for making holes or drilling screws into different materials. The drill bits can be changed out depending on your needs, and the Design Center has a variety of drill bits to choose from. These devices are cordless, and there are battery packs that can be inserted at the base of the handle. The safety should always be on when the tool is not in use. When you've finished using the driver, disconnect the battery pack and put it back on the charger.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between impact drivers and drill/drivers?
Impact drivers deliver significantly more torque than drill/drivers, making them more powerful than drill/drivers, and they are exclusively used for screwing in screws. This is useful for either drilling a lot of screws in very quickly or drilling screws into much tougher materials. Though the drill/driver is less powerful, it will generally be powerful enough for your building projects in the Design Center and will give you the versatility of not only screwing in screws but also drilling holes.

How do I change out the bit for the drivers?
Drill/drivers have a keyless chuck, which means that you don't need a key to lock the chuck in place in order to loosen it up to put in or remove the drill and screwdriver bits. As a safety precaution, you should always change out your bits before inserting the battery in order prevent it from turning on accidentally. Be sure the bit is firmly and tightly in the chuck so that it doesn't slip during use. The impact driver has a type of chuck called a collet that only accepts hexagonal screwdriver bits.
